Special Olympics Ireland delivers year-round sports training, competition, and developmental programmes to nearly 7,000 athletes annually. It provides ongoing opportunities for athletes to build physical fitness, show courage, experience joy, and share their talents, skills, and friendships with their families, fellow athletes, and the wider community.
Looking ahead, the Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games (18–21 June 2026) will be the largest inclusive sporting event on the island of Ireland in 2026. The Games will bring together 1,277 athletes, supported by 2,500 volunteers, competing across 12 sports and 15 venues. With thousands of spectators and extensive local and national media coverage expected, the event will showcase athletes ranging in age from 8 to 81. Alongside the competitions, impactful programmes such as Young Athletes, Healthy Athletes, and the Motor Activities Training Programme (MATP) will further highlight the organisation’s commitment to inclusion, health, and development for all participants.
